Our story is probably no different from anyone else’s. Like most people “we love dogs”, how could you not. As children we grew up with them and this continued with our own family, the breed may have changed a little over the years but the rewards we get from living with dogs continues.

Being Yorkshire born blessed us with many of the working breeds, Spaniels, Springers, Retrievers and Labs , inevitably this merged into gundog work and providing food for the table in the early years. As our boys grew up we shared that time with a growing family of Rhodesian Ridgebacks. All were amazingly social, almost silent and incredibly loyal. Many of the Ridgeback traits we continue to pursue today but in the Golden Retriever.

The years spent with Ridgebacks taught us a lot about the joys of dogs and some of the lows. Specifically in those days it was the health issues that sadly saw us move away from the breed losing our last one “Bruce” at a relatively young 10 years old.

We are grateful for the time we spent with them and the knowledge gained. They helped shape us and our children into seeing pleasure in more basic things. Hopefully this will continue for many years to come with our son James as he continues to take a more leading role with an eye for dog psychology and behavioural traits.
