Our story is probably no different from anyone else’s. Like most people “we love dogs”, how could you not. As children we grew up with them and this continued with our own family, the breed may have changed a little over the years but the rewards we get from living with dogs continues.

Being Yorkshire born blessed us with many of the working breeds, Spaniels, Springers, Retrievers and Labs , inevitably this merged into gundog work and providing food for the table in the early years. As our boys grew up we shared that time with a growing family of Rhodesian Ridgebacks. All were amazingly social, almost silent and incredibly loyal. Many of the Ridgeback traits we continue to pursue today but in the Golden Retriever.

A great question, anybody who has spent time with a Retriever will come to know why. If you are looking to take in a puppy or dog and are still deciding on a breed, chances are that you have heard good things about them.

I grew up with Retriever's so they are always going to be in the back of my mind. The ones that we live with today are very different from the ones back then. They were all from show lines, cream in colour, slightly heavier than our dogs, and they were also clumsy.
Our Highland Adventures
Our aims have changed slightly over the years, partly from gaining more insight into the dogs and ourselves. We get so much from the time we spend with the dogs, it it easier to see what matters and what we should be pursuing.
As a breeder, you always have the best intentions in place, but people often overlook the character traits being created by mating partners.

We are not immune to being overwhelmed by a striking-looking dog for colour, confirmation, etc when deciding on what could be created, however for us, character is king.
Need A Stud Dog?
Puppy birth is an amazing spectacle, regardless of age or gender the pleasure you get from holding a puppy can melt even the sternest of character.

The care and weaning process differs between litters, and we are constantly finding more ways to improve this process. Although we are licensed and have a good number of dogs, we are not prolific in the litters. We will always be learning and amazed at how soon puppies can adapt.
